Singing Journey Workshop
September 22, 2018
10am-4pm
For Fall 2018, MTAG is very excited to present, the Singing Journey Workshop, with our guest presenter, Virginia Schenck.
This five hour CMTE will provide you the opportunity to engage in steps towards creative improvisation, and learn the key elements for creating Circle Songs, the improvisatory polyphonic choral compositional style developed by master improviser, Bobby McFerrin. Building blocks of vocal improvisation games will be used as learned from McFerrin, Voicestra member, Rhiannon, Lisa Sokolov, and self. Emphasis will be on stretching the borders of individual and group singing, growing in spontaneous creativity, and exploring the applicability to music therapy. The ingredients of Circle Songs, including the primary elements (medium, pitch/non-pitch, text/ no text) time organization (tempo- groove style, non-tempo, and combinations), harmonic organization, form, and the evolution of these will be outlined. Participants will have the opportunity to explore vocal improvisation and create their own Circle Song. This modality has the inherent quality of yielding therapeutic results.
In order to registar, please complete the following registration form at the link below as well as payment through PayPal or download and mail the paper copy PDF with a check payment enclosed.
Max Noah is in Porter Hall - 210 N. Wilkinson St. When facing Porter Hall, Max Noah entrance is on outside of far left of building - there is also an elevator entrance. Parking is free on street or in two lots at corner of N. Wilkinson and W Montgomery.

AMTA Assembly of Delegates
The next term begins in 2019 and lasts for two years. The SER needs a minimum of 16 candidates, so there are plenty of opportunities for those willing to serve. (There are 8 delegates and 8 alternates.)
Delegates must be able to attend national conference and participate in the assembly meetings and the business meetings. There is very little time commitment outside of conference itself, as most of the work happens at conference.
If you are interested in serving contact lgooding@fsu.edu with any questions.
