Recently added to our Events/Continuing Ed tab is information regarding a CMTE opportunity at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. The CMTE entitled, "Sensorimotor Music Therapy Treatment Approaches: Eurhythmics for Autism and other Neurophysiologic Diagnoses," presented by Dr. Dorita Berger will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016. Details and registration information can be found HERE on our website.
All music therapy professionals are required to renew their license every 2 years, even numbered years. Due to this, we will all be required to renew our license this year by March 31. Many of you have contacted us regarding the application process, saying that you were unable to find the appropriate documents for renewal. Those documents are not currently available, but we have been told that when they are available, we will receive an email from the SOS. In addition, there is more information forthcoming from our Advisory Committee that we plan to disseminate when we receive it. For now, please make sure that you are utilizing the CBMT website to log your CMTE hours, and that you have logged at least 40 hours of your 100 (total in 5 years) during this 2-year license cycle.

Thank you to Paula James and the entire Internship Scholarship committee for sharing the application and guidelines for our scholarship. The recipient of our scholarship will be announced at our state association meeting at regional conference. Dates and times for that meeting will be shared at a later date. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact me at email@example.com for more information.

Referral Information and Music Therapists Needed
MTAG is very often getting email requests looking for music therapists in various parts of the state. Until then, I will continue to post updates on our Facebook page or on our Blog when looking for music therapists in certain locations. See below for a few opportunities, and please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in any of these listings.

Hello and Happy New Year! Welcome Home!
They say “Home is where the heart is …” And the passion for music therapy practice is alive and well here in our home state of Georgia! Professionals in our state are working in private practice, education, with clients dealing with substance abuse and addiction, in mental health facilities, and with patients on oncology units (to name just a few!) We have recently adopted a new licensure law to increase access to services and awareness of our growing profession. AND, the knowledge and training of professionals in our state continues to grow and expand as our colleagues present at conferences, in-services, and continuing education events.
As a member of MTAG, we want you to feel at home here in the state of Georgia! We want you to know your colleagues and be able to network with other professionals; we want to offer you in-depth, relevant, and current topics in continuing education; and we want to lead a state association that cares about you and your practice and provides the tools needed to be a successful music therapist in our state.
Just a few of the ways we plan to do that:
ü Provide relevant continuing music therapy education events and opportunities across the state at a reasonable price
ü Allow access to a multi-faceted website with up-to-date information about current events, government relations, and professional practice across the state
ü Serve as a liaison between professionals in the state of Georgia and the Advisory Committee to the Secretary of State’s Licensing Board
ü Create the opportunity for networking and friendly alliances with other professionals in music therapy and allied health professions, and
ü Introduce students and new professionals to a flourishing music therapy community in the state of Georgia
So welcome to MTAG, and invite some friends! We want to reach out to all of the professionals working in the state so that we can provide all of this and more. Make it your goal to reach out to one friend and recommend MTAG, so that they too can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
Let’s create a supportive, caring environment for our “family” here in Georgia, and let’s show everyone just how passionate we are about our home.
SB 414, Georgia’s music therapy licensure law was signed into law by Governor Deal in May 2012. You can access a copy of the music therapy licensure law through this link to the Georgia General Assembly website. Music therapists started applying for their licenses in Fall of 2013, and beginning January 1, 2014 all music therapists must have obtained their license in order to practice in the state of Georgia.
